This week, Mayor Mandel stepped into the spirited debate on the trajectory of the proposed West LRt extension. He came out against routing it along 87th Avenue to West Edmonton Mall, and actively promoted routing it along Stoney Plain Road or 107th Avenue.
Personally, I agree wholeheartedly with Howie on this one. LRT should be used as a tool to promote density, especially in a city where it feels like to have a cross a time zone to get from one end of it to the other. Downtown Jasper Place is a shell of its former self; putting the LRT in the neighbourhood would spring it back to life.
