Old Man Winter Strikes Back…

I know you’re all grumpy out there about the weather in the past few days.  One would-be commenter launched into a tirade at me about how Edmonton sucks due to the cold & snow in April (it’s like that in Calgary too, if it makes anyone feel better!).

To the point of this post however: if you have no pressing reason to go out today, especially to areas outside the city, STAY HOME!  I drove back to Edmonton from Calgary last night on the QE2.  In large sections, the highway is nothing but a sheet of polished, glare ice.  Somebody in a sub-compact spun out in front of me, narrowly missing me, and hit the median ditch so hard, they came out into the opposing lanes of traffic (luckily nothing was coming at the time, thank God).  There were total white-outs north of Red Deer, and scores upon scores of cars and tractor-trailers in the ditch.

Wait until the snow clears up tomorrow, and even then, drive with extreme caution until it all melts.

Road conditions in Alberta as of this afternoon…

Highway 2 SB around Olds is closed due to an accident.  If you HAVE to go to Calgary, plan on being delayed by at least 1-2 hours.  But stay home if it’s not an emergency.  Trust me.
